Work took me today down to Gaziantep in southern Turkey. Wikipedia tells me that it is "amongst the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
Highlight of the day was definitely lunch. OK food is often a highlight for me, but this place was fantastic. Around since 1887, the Imam Cagdas restaurant is famous in town and the locals appear to be proud of it - it was huge and busy. My host proclaimed as we approached the door: "Are you ready for the best food of your life?".
He wasn't far off. Certainly the best Turkish food I've ever had. Delicious salads, breads and their kebabs were incredible. They had this one dish that had eggplant, yogurt and some spice with the meat and it was one of the tastiest things to hit my mouth in ages - and I have tried lots of food in lots of places. They also have some very good pistachio baklava that I sampled and also brought some home to share.
My meal was over eight hours ago and I have no intention of eating until at least tomorrow. Although there is that box of baklava on the counter. . . . .
